How do I troubleshoot an E9 error code on the GROHE Blue Chilled & Sparkling 2.0 Water System?

Summary

The E9 error on a GROHE Blue chiller indicates overheating, usually due to poor ventilation. Check for blocked vents, proper cabinet size and ventilation, and a cool ambient temperature; disconnecting power can reset the unit.

Answer:

Error Code E9: Chiller Is Overheating

The faucet will not dispense filtered, chilled, or sparkling water.

The E9 error code indicates that the chiller unit has overheated, typically due to improper venting.  The chiller unit requires adequate spacing in the cabinet and ventilation holes as specified in the instruction manual.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Ensure the GROHE Blue handle is in the closed position. This will stop any further water flow and allow the system to cool.
  • Inspect vents: The chiller unit has vents on the sides, at least one side needs to be unobstructed.  Ensure dust or debris haven't accumulated on the vents on the sides of the chiller.
  • Confirm cabinet ventilation: The cabinet should be a minimum of 23 5/8" wide, 19 11/16" deep and 16 15/16" high, with specified ventilation holes cut in the cabinet.
  • Check the ambient temperature: The surrounding temperature should not exceed 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit). If the ambient temperature is too high, consider moving the unit to a cooler location.
  • Disconnect chiller: Disconnect the power supply for approximately 10-15 minutes to allow the chiller to cool down.  This should reset the E9 error code automatically.
